Custom Pool Trends for Summer 2022

May 11, 2022by Content ManagerDesignPOOL AND SPA

Backyards are a place to explore the outdoors within your comfort zone. Landscaping the outdoor area of your home can bring you many benefits and increase your backyard’s usage. Enjoying time outside with friends and family is one of the best ways to stay healthy and create new memories. One beneficial addition to many backyards in Colorado is a custom-built swimming pool.

The summers are hot in our beautiful state. Some days can feel as dry as the desert. Having a pool in your yard to refresh on those days by quickly dipping your toes in or making a big splash brings a sense of relief to your home. Pools provide both relaxation and the opportunity for exercise. Swimming and playing in the water are one of the best things for your body.

Your outdoor space may be large, with enough space for an outdoor kitchen next to your pool, and you still have grass to spare for everyone to run in. However, do not count yourself out just because of the size of your yard. There are many different custom pools you can build in the backyard of your Colorado home. Today, we will go over the styles of pools trending this year and the best features to incorporate into your new space.

Ready to find out more? Reach out to WetWorks Pool and Spa. For over two decades, our family-owned business has been building custom pools in the Denver metro area. We are excited to hear about your dream pool and bring it to life!

Custom Pools Trending in 2022

No matter the size of your yard, there is a pool style for you. Any of these pools can be outfitted with features to fit your desired custom pool and backyard aesthetic. Our WetWorks Pool and Spa team is happy to speak with you about the different benefits of each custom pool style, finding the best way to make your backyard your dream space.

Here are some of the most popular custom build pools just in time for summer 2022.

Cocktail Pool

Cocktail pools occasionally referred to as compact pools, are great for any yard. Cocktail pools are commonly found in warm, tropical climates, perfect for a small backyard. They are typically no deeper than four feet, making them an excellent option for anyone with young children. Typically no larger than 12 feet across, cocktail pools are a great addition when customizing a small backyard. One feature that often draws Colorado homeowners to building a custom cocktail pool is the easy addition of a heater and jets, making your cocktail pool a backyard feature year-round. You will surely enjoy your investment by refreshing in the summer and rejuvenating after a day on the slopes.

Plunge Pool

Plunge pools are a bit bigger than cocktail pools, generally needing about 14 feet by 28 feet of space. Occasionally referred to as digging pools, plunge pools can be considered the best of both worlds. Still on the smaller side, medium-sized yards can often fit a custom plunge pool. Plunge pools offer submerging depth and often have a fully built lounging bench. Ideal for cooling off and relaxing, yet not large enough for active water sports, a plunge pool is the perfect middle ground.

Indoor Pool

Many homeowners today are investing in building indoor and outdoor pools. With the harsh Colorado winters, indoor pools are always an excellent option for homeowners looking to be active in the water year-round. Building a custom indoor pool in your yard allows you to enjoy your new space no matter the weather.

Spa

Spas bring an element of relaxation to any home. They can range in size, allowing room for anywhere from 2 to 12 people. The water temperature of a spa is what sets it apart, averaging around 100 degrees. Spas are often built with sitting benches and jets, making them the ultimate lounging addition to any yard. What better way to rejuvenate your muscles after an epic snowball fight in the winter or spend the day hiking the breathtaking Rocky Mountains in our backyard than by relaxing at your private custom-built spa? At WetWorks Pool and Spa, we are able to build your dream spa inside or out.

Natural Pools

Natural pools are quickly becoming a trend for homeowners building their custom pools in Denver. However, natural pools are one of the more costly custom pools to build, and they require quite a bit of space. This is because when you are building a natural pool, you are actually building an entire ecosystem. Natural pools are eco-friendly and require less maintenance than a chlorinated pool. Especially in the winter, when a natural pool is likely to freeze over in Denver, Colorado. Home ice rink, anyone?

Though the water may not be as clear as a chemically cleaned pool, in the long run, a custom-built natural pool in your Colorado backyard will bring many benefits. Natural pools can be any size; however, they require a smaller secondary pool. This is where the water is naturally filtered as it streams into the swimming pool. The year-to-year maintenance cost is lower than a traditional pool. Natural pools have an unlimited amount of aesthetics. From looking like a regular lap pool at first glance to designing it like your favorite swim spot in the woods, natural pools allow your creativity to flourish.

Trending Features to Add to Your Custom Pool

Having a custom pool in your backyard makes any hot day enjoyable. When homeowners consider a custom pool for their backyard, they can also take into account additional features! Adding features to your new pool will ensure the vibe you envision is translated to anyone who joins you for a swim!

Here are some of the top features to add when renovating your home and adding a new custom pool in Denver, Colorado.

Rain Wall

Who dislikes a rain wall? Maybe it is the kid inside all of us, but rain walls bring an instant element of fun to any pool. Dramatically accenting your custom pool in Denver, rain walls add a flare that is hard to match. Aesthetically pleasing, rain walls vary in size, allowing you to match your dreams to your existing home pool perfectly. Rain walls are becoming more and more popular as homeowners invest in making their yard a tranquil space. The sound of rain has been shown to promote a relaxing effect, helping you recharge after a long day.

Swim Up Bar

For those looking to entertain with their at-home custom pool in Denver, have you considered including a swim-up bar? Swim-up bars give an instant social vibe to any pool. If you are looking to have a space that can be optimized for mingling, a swim-up bar is for you. While they do take more space to install than a standard water feature, no outdoor kitchen is complete without a swim-up bar.

Smart Technology

Technology in 2022 allows you to enhance your pool in many different ways. There is no end to the cool features technology brings to your custom pool in Colorado. Lighting, sound and temperature are all features that can easily be managed with a smartphone, scheduling when to adjust the light or water temperature is also a very convenient option that can be added. At WetWorks Pool and Spa, we are happy to work with you throughout the design process, ensuring your dream pool comes to life.

LED Lighting

Adding LED lighting to your custom backyard pool brings many benefits. Lighting allows you to use the pool even when it is dark outside, adding an entirely new experience to your home pool in Denver. They also bring an element of safety to any evening swimmer or families with children. Seeing who is swimming in the pool at dusk is vital to having a safe home pool environment. Lighting can also be synced with your speakers, playing different colors to the song’s beat. Each gathering at your custom pool in Denver will have its own aesthetic with LED lighting built-in.

Top Swimming Pool Safety Tips

A pool is a lot of fun! Backyard swimming pools can be a welcomed relief to the summer heat, a great way to exercise, or a place to relax. Safety precautions should always come first, no matter your use of the pool. Whether you are a guest at a pool, using a shared community pool, or are an at-home swimming pool owner in Denver, we recommend making yourself aware of the safety rules of each swimming pool upon arrival.

Our Top 7 Swimming Pool Safety Precautions

  1. Establish Rules
  2. Learn to Swim
  3. Supervise Children at All Times
  4. Install Pool Barriers
  5. Lightning & Thunder Safety
  6. Be Prepared
  7. Take Care of Your Body

Establish Rules

Part of being a responsible pool owner is establishing rules and seeing that they are followed at all times. No matter how many precautions you take, owning a pool can still be dangerous. To minimize your legal risks, in addition to the personal tragedy of a loved one drowning in your pool, be sure to establish and post your pool rules where everyone can see them. You can also share where the rules are posted with each guest as they arrive and ask them to refresh their memory.

Here are some rules you may include in your pool safety:

  1. Only swim when an adult is present.
  2. Never swim alone; always swim with someone.
  3. No diving in shallow pools.
  4. No running on the pool deck.
  5. Do not swim while intoxicated.
  6. No pushing or horseplay.
  7. No electrical appliances near the pool.
  8. If someone is in trouble, get help FAST. Post what to do in an emergency.

Spinal cord injuries are no joke. Permanent brain damage or even death can result from diving into shallow water. Above-ground pools are very rarely deep enough to dive into. One should never dive into a pool toy or through an inner tube. Above all, be aware of your surroundings and respect the depth of the pool you are enjoying!

Learn to Swim

Swimming is not only fun, but it is also a lifesaving skill! We always encourage pool owners (and pool enjoyers!) to ensure everyone in their household knows how to swim. Non-swimmers should wear CoastGuard-approved life jackets at all times. A life jacket needs to properly fit the age and weight of the person wearing it. Common blow-up swimming aids or toys are not a proper substitute for a life preserver and should never be utilized as such, especially in open water. Learning to swim will benefit you for years to come, as you feel confident in enjoying different bodies of water. Swimming is excellent exercise and a great reason to build a custom pool in your Denver backyard.

Supervise Children at All Times

In addition to teaching your children to swim, we recommend any children swimming be supervised at all times while in your pool. In the water, toddlers and infants should always be within arm’s reach of the adult supervising them. As children age and gain swimming experience, they can be supervised from further away. The supervising adult should be free from distractions like talking on the phone, drinking alcohol, doing chores, or observing through a window. A child should never be left alone out by the pool. The supervising adult should always know how to swim and perform CPR.

Install Pool Barriers

There are a few different barriers every backyard pool owner can install for added safety measures. Here are a few of our go-to barriers. Any fences surrounding the pool should be at least four feet high and built in such a way that prohibits children from climbing over them (with no hand or footholds to help one climb). Consider where your lawn furniture is placed, making sure it is away from the fence so it cannot be used to climb on. When the pool is not being used, remove or lock ladders to prevent easy access. Keeping toys away from the pool when the pool is not in use to discourage children and neighbors from using the pool without your knowledge is always recommended. Pool alarms and safety covers are other barriers to help protect unsupervised swimmers but are not replacements for a fence.

Double-check your homeowner’s insurance policy to include liability coverage, and take all the required measures to create a safe pool area. Some insurance policies will not cover pools with diving boards or slides and insist that safety measures exist. These policy details may influence your decision.

Lightning and Thunder: “If you can see it, flee it. If you can hear it, clear it.”

Lightning can be unpredictable and random. A conservative approach to water safety should always be taken in terms of thunder and lightning. Someone in your group should always be designated as the weather lookout and frequently check the Weather Channel or radio for local weather updates. Pools are connected to a large surface area via underground water pipes, gas lines, and electrical wiring. This network could induce electric shocks when lightning strikes the ground near a pool. Lightning can strike before the rain so keep an eye on the sky for large cumulus clouds, as they are often the first signs of a thunderstorm. Pool activities should be suspended for at least 30 minutes after hearing thunder.

If you are caught swimming during a storm, get out of the water and find shelter as soon as possible. A good rule of thumb is to count how many seconds pass from the first flash of lightning to the sound of thunder. Thirty seconds or less typically means that you are under 5 miles from the lightning. This is the danger or threat zone, and you should take cover immediately. If someone in your group is struck by lightning, you must help them as soon as possible. Call 911 for guidance and apply first aid to any burns. The heart can stop due to electrical shock, and a trained person should administer CPR as fast as possible.

Be prepared for an Emergency.

While we always hope we do not encounter one, emergencies happen. Drowning is the number one cause of death for children under the age of four, and it is the fifth leading cause of unintentional deaths for people of all ages. CPR classes are recommended for everyone in the household, as are water safety and first aid certification courses.

Rescue equipment should be easily accessible and in good condition for your at-home swimming pool. This includes safety rings, floats, and a reaching pole or shepherd’s hook. In an emergency, directions of what to do could save someone’s life. For the benefit of your guests or babysitter who may not have your address memorized, a laminated poster or sign in the pool area with your address and emergency phone number could come in handy. Yell for help during an emergency, begin CPR, and immediately call 911.

Stay Hydrated While Protecting your Skin

One of the easiest safety precautions you can take during the summer is to drink enough water! The dry, hot summer heat paired with our mile-high status here in Denver makes it imperative to stay hydrated. Dehydration happens quicker at high altitudes, especially when paired with the midday sun. While sweet beverages like juice and energy drinks can be tempting on a poolside afternoon, sugary drinks can leave you feeling extra lethargic or nauseous in the heat. Drinking the recommended eight glasses of water each day is generally a safe bet, but athletes such as swimmers (even if only for a day!) may need more. Dietitians recommend including water-rich foods like watermelon, celery, tomatoes, broccoli, and citrus fruits for summertime snacking to help hydrate the body.

Protecting your skin with 30+ SPF sunscreen will also help prevent dehydration! Did you know severe sunburn and sun poisoning can cause headaches, nausea, and dizziness? Extra fluids will help with these symptoms and boost your recovery. Dermatologists recommend that SPF 30 or above be applied to the skin at least 15 minutes before sun exposure. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen (to protect you from both UVA and UVB rays) and water-resistant. Sunscreen needs to be reapplied at least every two hours to be effective immediately after sweating or swimming (sunscreen is water-resistant, not waterproof). Wide brim hats, sunglasses, and clothing add an extra layer of sun protection as well!

Safety is a part of owning a swimming pool in your backyard. We hope that you will feel more confident and prepared to own an at-home pool in your Denver home with these tips. Owning your dream swimming pool is within your reach—peace, love, and SPF.

Things to Consider When Building Custom Swimming Pools in Denver

January 14, 2022by SEOteamBuildDesignPOOL AND SPA

Summer months in Denver are remarkably hot and dry. With limited pools in the area, building a pool in your backyard is a great idea. Custom swimming pools in Denver with WetWorks Pool & Spa could be the perfect addition to your space at home.

Building a custom swimming pool in Denver brings with it multiple benefits:

  • You can skip the large summer crowds at public pools and enjoy swimming with just your friends and family.
  • Swimming is a wonderful exercise routine! Adults and kids alike can improve both their strength and stamina from swimming, among other benefits.
  • Every summer birthday in your family will have the perfect party venue.
  • Adding a custom swimming pool can even increase the value of your property!

Before scouting for pool companies in Denver, there are a few factors to consider:

What is your purpose in building a pool?

Begin by establishing your reasons for wanting to build a pool at home. These reasons will influence the pool’s size, shape, depth, and the type of construction. Is the pool for training or relaxation or recreation? Once you have a clear idea of the whys, the succeeding decisions you’ll be making will nearly answer themselves.

Is your property up to it?

Ask any custom pools Denver CO company and they will tell you that it is easier to build a swimming pool on a level site. Construction costs will be higher if your area slopes steeply. The ground conditions of your property, like a high water table or rocky unstable soil, can make building a pool trickier.

Another environmental consideration is if you live in an earthquake-prone area or there could be potential flooding when it rains heavily. If so, you may need to commission a geotechnical engineering report or soil tests to make sure of your target area’s suitability.

The location and the size of your property will present the outline of options for the size and shape of the swimming pool you are going to build. You’ll also have to take into consideration that small urban sites will have strict requirements on the type of construction close to boundaries, like shading from neighboring buildings or trees will put limitations on where you can place a swimming pool. Consulting a reputable Custom swimming pool Denver company like WetWorks Pool & Spa will be able to offer you solutions for any of the mentioned scenarios that may pop up.

Where are you going to put the pool?

You’ve decided which type of pool you want to build, now it’s time to determine where you want to put it. Your first task is to check your area’s council and building regulations, on-site coverage allowance, proximity to wastewater fields, pool fencing requirements, and the location of utilities like electrical gas, cable, water, telephone, and water lines, among others. Other important factors to consider:

  • The view of the swimming pool from inside your house, as well as the rest of the backyard area. Being able to see the pool from the inside is important if you are going to have children swimming. You may consider adding lighting or water features to enhance the appearance and visibility of the pool.
  • Maximize sun exposure. This is important because sun exposure will help keep the water temperature warm. Large trees around the vicinity of the pool tend to block the sun and the leaves will inevitably drop into the water, leading to frequent maintenance for you down the road.
  • Wind exposure will cool the water down and increase evaporation. In lieu of building screens around the pool area, plants provide a natural barrier that also enhances the space aesthetically.
  • Consider the flow, or circulation routes, of your custom swimming pool in Denver. How are people going to enter and exit the pool?
  • Is there an area for poolside entertainment and relaxation? Do you intend to build a mini bar by the pool or do you envision lounge chairs? Is there enough area to add sun umbrellas, offering shade? Would you like a space for kids to play or add poolside toys? Maybe there’s even a changing area!
  • Determine where to store your custom pool essentials such as filtration equipment and cleaner. These should be stored together, out of reach of children, in a dry place.

Consider Alternatives to Chemical Cleaning.

A recent trend for homeowners today who love the idea of having their own custom swimming pool in Denver but dislike like pool chemicals, is building a natural pool. This trend, like so many others, is inspired by natural pools in Europe. These pools are inground, lined plants and rely on natural processes and filtration to keep them clean. While they may have a higher cost on the initial build, natural pools have lower maintenance costs year to year. They are also adaptable, as you are creating a mini ecosystem to naturally filter the water, keeping your pool chemical free! Swimming surrounded by plants also welcomes the feeling of escaping to a relaxing getaway, only steps from your kitchen.

What is your budget?

You should start your research with an initial budget that you are ready to spend. It is important to set a budget because that will determine what materials you’d use for the pool, among other factors like the size and location. Fiberglass composite materials may start at $35,000. You may opt for concrete pools with customizable shapes and sizes, ranging upwards of $55,000. This costing usually includes heating, decking, covers, and landscaping. The costs of filtration parts (pumps, filters, etc.) and keeping the water clean (chemicals, chlorinators, suction cleaners, self-cleaning units, etc.) will all depend on how you choose to customize your pool.

Bottom Line

Summer months in Denver are remarkably hot and dry. With limited pools in the area, building a pool in your backyard is a great idea. Custom swimming pools in Denver with WetWorks Pool & Spa could be the perfect addition to your space at home. Pools not only provide you with the perfect venue for summer time gatherings, they provide you with a piece of paradise just outside of your kitchen door. Call WetWorks Pool & Spa, we want to hear about your dream pool!

The pool repair process

June 29, 2021by Content Dev BSUUncategorized

pool maintenance

Although concrete is durable and will be able to withstand many problems that may come in the way, there will be times where your pool will need to be repaired.

There are many ways your pool will need repairs over the years as it grows older and as your family uses it. Make sure you prepare for the ways your pool will need to be updated and repaired over the years.

Cracks in the pool

Over the years, the concrete and the plaster in your pool will begin to crack. Most concrete pools will crack at some point, but some will crack more than others and may even split in half.

Specialists will widen the crack before fixing it. Then they will clean it out and use pool plaster to fill it in. Once it is fixed, your pool is ready to be filled and return to normal.

Replastering can also fix cracks in the surface of the pool. It will put a new layer of plaster on the walls and the bottom of your pool, making it waterproof.

Acid washing

Acid washing can fix a rough pool surface by removing dirt or calcium deposits found at the bottom.

In this method, a thin part of the pool’s surface will be removed to effectively clean all the first and calcium from it.

Retiling

Most concrete pools have tiles to keep the plaster in the pool from staining. However, as your pool grows older, it will need to be retiled to ensure the tile is doing its job and still looking new.

Your pool will need to be drained completely and then the old tiles will be removed. After that, the old adhesive will be removed from the surface and the walls of the pool will be scrubbed to make it cleaner and ready for the new tiles.

Once done, the new tiles will be set up and put onto the walls of the pool with a new adhesive. It will take a couple of days for the adhesive to fully dry and be ready for the pool to be filled again.

If you think your pool may need repaired before the summer begins, consider looking deeper into any of these processes.

The benefits of concrete pools and spas

June 29, 2021by Content Dev BSUUncategorized

Having a pool can improve you and your family’s well-being in many ways. Swimming is an excellent, easy exercise to do and spas and pools can put your mind at ease and take away stress. Not to mention, having a pool or spa can make your yard look more visually appealing, giving you a sense of pride in your property and where you live.

What are the benefits of having a concrete pool or spa and why should you choose one of those?

Easy to customize

One of the best benefits of having a concrete pool is how simple they are to customize. With a concrete pool, you can pick the shape, size and any other features.

With an above-ground pool, you will not have this freedom and this ability to give your input on the process. The shape, size and features of the pool are already picked out and you pick what you like best.

This may seem like an easier process, but it is less personal and takes you and your family out of the process. A concrete pool allows you to pick what works best for you and gives you a voice in the design process. A concrete pool is more special and personal.

Durability

Concrete is tough — tough enough that very little can break through it. Sharp objects, such as nails from dogs if they swim in the pool, are unable to break through concrete like they can break through vinyl liners.

Life can get messy and things can get difficult, so you shouldn’t have to worry about replacing parts of your pool as well. That can be expensive and time-consuming, bringing more stress into your family’s lives.

With the durability of concrete, you won’t have to worry about replacing the lining of your pool any time life gets in the way.

Appealing

Having a concrete, in-ground pool or spa is much more visually appealing than an above-ground one.

A concrete pool or spa looks more classic and clean, and will make your yard look better than any other type of pool will. It’s easy to decorate the area around your pool and shape it in a way that makes you and your family most happy.

Having a concrete pool or spa provides more benefits for your family than any other types would. When all of these combine, you and your family will be happier and pleased with the look of your new outdoor space.

If you want to improve the look of your yard, instill more pride in your property and have a voice in the process, make sure you consider installing a concrete pool at your house this summer.

Must have swimming pool accessories

April 20, 2021by SEOteamUncategorized

Having a swimming pool or spa in your backyard is nice, but having awesome pool accessories makes your pool experience even better! You can be confident that you have the most incredible backyard hang-out spot in town by adding affordable and innovative swimming pool accessories.

Warming Towels

Have you ever dreaded climbing out of the pool or hot tub when it’s a bit windy or cold outside? You can add a touch of luxury to your backyard soak by adding a towel warming accessory to your swimming pool or spa accessories. Towel warmers are inexpensive and effective at keeping you warm when you’re cold.

Exit Ramp

A swimming pool is enjoyable for humans, but it is also pleasant for animals. A frog or other water-loving critter may jump into your swimming pool at times, and they will need a way out. Because water circulates towards your skimmer basket, having an escape ramp near your skimmer basket allows critters, who have floated towards your skimmer basket to get out of the pool. Pool owners can easily remove skimmer baskets from your pool before entertaining guests, so don’t be concerned.

Bath for your feet

A footbath near your pool or spa is a good idea if you’re throwing a pool party and want to keep dirt and grass out of your pool or spa. Simply place your foot-bath at the edge of your pool to ensure that rinsed feet enter the water each time. Rinsing off your feet is especially useful for anyone who owns an above-ground swimming pool and faces the challenge of cleaning it out. Foot-baths are a low-cost way to keep your swimming pool clean and inviting.

Fountain with Waterfall

A waterfall pool fountain is a great way to decorate your pool while also enjoying the soothing sounds of water. Waterfall pool fountains also improve pool water circulation. They are the most practical and straightforward way to decorate your in-ground or above-ground swimming pool and patio to create the ideal backyard ambiance. Other advantages of having a waterfall swimming pool fountain include cooler pool temperatures, avoiding water stagnation to keep insect populations at bay, and increasing the pool water’s oxygen levels.

Basketball Hoop by the Pool

With a poolside basketball hoop, you can slam dunk on your summer pool parties. Any swimming pool party I attended that featured a poolside basketball hoop was a huge success. A high-quality poolside basketball hoop will be able to maintain its upright position even when children are thrashing on it and playing with it in the pool. They frequently have weighted bases to prevent them from tipping over. They are typically portable and easy to store, so don’t put off purchasing a poolside basketball hoop until your next pool party.

Fountains

Pool Fountains are similar to swimming pool waterfalls in that they spray strands of water from the side or center of the pool. A swimming pool fountain provides a beautiful combination of cascading water that will add elegance and flair to your pool. They can usually be adjusted to cover the amount of spray radius that is most convenient for you.

Pool Heater Powered by the Sun

Solar pool heaters are a cost-effective and environmentally friendly way to heat your pool. It is frequently built in a tube-and-web design, which allows for normal expansion and contraction as the panels heat and cool, extending their service life. They are typically made of pre-compounded polypropylene, which increases your solar panels’ resistance to UV light. It is recommended that you match up to 100% of your pool’s surface area to the surface area of your solar panel pool heaters. They are simple to install, requiring only a few components and will last between 15 and 20 years.

Water Slide

There is no better way to get in shape than by playing on an inflatable water slide in your pool. Many modern inflatable water slides include climbing attachments, spraying water guns, and a splash pool. Don’t be concerned if putting up and taking down an inflatable water slide appears to be a lot of work; it isn’t! Set-up and take-down time are typically less than three minutes. Inflatable water slides aren’t just for the pool; you can also take them to the park, your garage, or your backyard.

Volleyball Net that Floats

Nothing says summer like a floating inflatable volleyball net! Don’t be bored this summer with anything active to do; instead, purchase a floating swimming pool volleyball net, which can be fun for adults and children. These modern nets are of high-quality construction, typically made of PVC materials, are non-toxic and odorless, and are most importantly ultra-safe and durable.

As you can see, there are many good options for pool accessories for both kids and adults. From waterfalls to sports activities, you can turn your backyard into a fun-filled haven for the entire family.

Tips for Keeping your Backyard Swimming Pool Clean

March 4, 2021by SEOteamUncategorized

Instead of waiting for something to go wrong with your pool’s cleaning system, you can practice what’s referred to as preventative maintenance, or maintenance that is proactively performed on an asset with the goal of lessening the likelihood of failure, reducing unexpected downtime, and prolonging its useful life. Basically, everyone wants to get the most out of their investment, that’s why practicing these tips can help you avoid unexpected costs incurred from the life-cycle costs associated with your backyard pool.

Here are helpful tips to keep your swimming pool water clear and clean.

Check Pool Chemistry

Your backyard pool can bring you hours of relaxation and enjoyment, but the proper water chemistry is paramount to keeping your pool water clear and clean. The proper balance of your pools water’s pH, total alkalinity, and calcium hardness and the three main factors when it comes to properly balance your pool’s chemistry. You should check your pool’s chemistry 2-3 times per week and add chemicals to properly adjust levels as needed. You should add one chemical at a time or if adding multiple at once, add them to different areas of the pool. Afterward, you should run your pump to help disperse the chemicals. Always test and adjust pool chemicals starting with alkalinity, then pH, and finally calcium.

Maintain Optimal pH Levels

pH measures the acidity or basicity of the pool water. The scale ranges from 0-14 with 7 being neutral. Under 7 the water is classified as acidic, over 7 the water is classified as basic.

Your pool’s pH should be in the range of 7.4 pH to 7.6 pH.

A body of water that is high in pH, or basic, will leave deposits of scum on the liner that coats the pool walls.

A pH of 7.4 will stop scum lines from forming, as well as wiping down the waterline of your pool where scum lines are most prone to forming.

Calcium Hardness

Calcium hardness refers to how soft or hard your pool water is.

The harder your pool water, the higher the concentration of the calcium or magnesium that is present.

The optimal range of calcium hardness to keep your pool at is between 180ppm – 200ppm

The pH of the water directly affects your pool water’s calcium hardness, so you must properly set the pool’s pH before balancing its calcium hardness.

Empty the Skimmer Basket

Keeping your skimmer basket free of debris at all times keeps it working at its best. The purpose of the skimmer basket is to skim the surface of the pool water for debris before they become saturated and sink to the bottom of the pool. You can empty the skimmer basket by opening up the skimmer panel, remove the skimmer basket, and dump out the collected debris.

Clean the Hair and Lint Pot

Depending on how often and how many people use your pool, you will need to clean the hair and lint pot located inside of your pool pump. The hair and lint pot captures what the skimmer basket failed to collect.

Check Your Water Levels

The best way to check if your pool’s water level is too high or low is by checking its level in relation to your pool skimmer or tile. Your pool’s water level needs to be right at the center level of your pool skimmer or tile. The reason your pool’s water level is so important is that if the water’s too high the skimmer door will not work properly and will leave debris in the pool, in contrast, if your pool’s water is too low, it can cause your pump to run dry, causing it to burn up.

Beat the Denver Heat this Summer with a Swimming Pool

March 4, 2021by SEOteamUncategorized

We all know daily life has its endless stream of challenges and difficulties. Owning your own backyard pool can be a relaxing getaway from the day-to-day hurdy-gurdy, fast pace that life demands. A quiet serene dip to get your day started, at sunset with a glass of wine, or spontaneous moonlight skinny-dipping with your partner; a backyard swimming pool is a convenient and fun way to improve your mental and physical health.

Swimming pools are an area for bonding with friends and family. It’s almost cliche at this point, but outdoor pools bring people together. Living in a day and age where connections are more important than ever, backyard swimming pools are always a great way to get friends and family together for a socially-distanced cook-out. For the parents out there, we all know when it comes to our kid’s birthday parties, they want the best, and a pool party is the best party a kid could ask for.

Having a backyard swimming pool to cool off within summer is a great reason to go outside, breathe some fresh air, get some sun, and then cool off in the pool. The right balance of daily sunlight has numerous mood-lifting benefits. Here are a few:

  • Exposure to sunlight increases your brain’s release of the hormone serotonin by cueing special receptors in your retina, helping you stay calm and focused. Without enough sun exposure, your melatonin levels will decline.
  • The sun naturally causes your body to produce melatonin, which has a calming effect on your nervous system.
  • Getting up to 15 minutes of sunlight daily boosts the levels of vitamin-D in your body, which contributes to strong bones.
  • Moderate amounts of sunlight can help prevent colon cancer, Hodgkin’s lymphoma, ovarian cancer, pancreatic cancer, and prostate cancer.
  • Remember: Always wear sunscreen!

Swimming and other water-related activities are excellent ways to exercise because they’re low-impact so they preserve the joints of your body and can be performed by anyone regardless of age or physical condition. Water-based exercises keep you limber, tones your muscle mass, and improves your cardiovascular endurance, effectively building your coordination, balance, flexibility, lung capacity, and circulation. Water-based exercises can also help people with arthritis by improving the use of affected joints without worsening symptoms. It’s recommended by the CDC to perform water-based exercises for at least two and a half hours per week.

Due to the low-impact nature of water exercises you can perform in your pool, if you’re ever injured and are undergoing physical therapy, you can perform your therapy in the convenience of your own backyard! Having the ability to do this is a major convenience since person-to-person contact is currently limited due to the corona-virus. That means having your own pool helps you avoid crowded gyms or public pools, lowering your risk of contracting or spreading the coronavirus, being conscientious of your safety and the safety of others while still getting the exercise and therapy you need.

Humans are naturally captivated by clean bodies of water, it’s hard not to be aware of how important water is in our lives. The human body is 65% water, and about 71% of the earth’s surface is covered in water. Having a swimming pool in your backyard turns your house into a resort-like home experience. With the addition of a pool, your house will become to go-to “chill spot” for your friends, neighbors, and family. If you really want to create an exclusive “chill spot” and max out the full potential of your pool party fun, you can add a diving board, slide, or water walking ball to get all the fun features of a waterpark in your own backyard. Not only that, but when the party’s over, and it’s back to house chores, there’s less grass to cut, giving you more time to throw a pool party or get together with your Bro’s in your backyard chill spot! Finally when all is said and done, and you and your family move out, after all the countless pool parties and Bro hang-outs, your pool can increase the resale value of your property by nearly 8% according to houselogic.com

The Benefits of Staycationing At Your Home Pool

January 24, 2021by Content Team HPOOL AND SPA

Now more than ever, families are craving to head out on a vacation. We all need a break every once in a while to relax, recharge, and enjoy time with loved ones. However, planning a vacation can be overwhelming, especially with safety concerns regarding travel. Additionally, vacations are often expensive, and many people don’t have the extra room in their budgets to splurge on a trip. So, what can you do to reap all of the benefits of a vacation without the hassle and expense? Our suggestion is a staycation.

With a pool in your very own backyard, you can have a staycation whenever you please. No preparation is required – you can just head outside and enjoy an outdoor escape from the daily grind. Let’s learn more about Denver home pool staycationing and the perks of considering a custom pool for your abode.

Staycation: Vacation Without Leaving Home

What exactly is a staycation? It’s a holiday break that you take right from the comfort of your own home. By taking a staycation, you can enjoy the relaxation of a vacation without all of the complications that come along with a trip out of town. For a summer holiday, having a Denver home pool can upgrade your staycation. When you relax by the pool, you’ll automatically be transported to a calmer, more luxurious place. Clear blue water under the bright Colorado sunshine will offer you a break from day-to-day stressors and your regular routine without ever setting foot off of your property.

The Benefits of a Staycation at Your Home Pool

Save Money

One of the main perks of taking a staycation in lieu of an out-of-town trip is cost-effectiveness. Vacations are undeniably expensive. Between flights, rental cars, hotels, meals out, and activities, your vacation may cause more financial stress than it’s worth. When you opt for a staycation, you get to avoid extraneous expenses and focus on what’s important. After all, relaxation and the company of loved ones are priceless. With a staycation, you won’t have to worry about staying within budget – in the comfort of your home, you can relax without spending a dime.

Ditch The Dangers of Traveling

Currently, traveling is associated with health risks. If you don’t feel comfortable with these risks, or if you want to avoid the restrictions that currently come along with traveling to several locations, consider a staycation instead. With your loved ones and a pool in your backyard, you can simply enjoy the fresh air – no masks required.

Avoid Time Off Work

Unfortunately, many of us don’t have the flexibility to take extended periods off of work. But, if you’re planning a vacation, it may feel disappointing to put effort into the trip if you can only stay for a few days. A staycation will give you the complete flexibility to only vacation for as long as your work allows. Even if it only lasts for a weekend, a staycation can lower your stress levels and give you a chance to slow down amidst the daily chaos.

Skip The Pet Sitter

Many of us here in Denver and around the United States have one or more pets as members of the family. Especially if you have a pet that requires daily care, like a dog, heading out of town to go on vacation will require you to hire a pet sitter. If you choose to bring your pet along with you on vacation so that you don’t have to be apart from your furry friend, you’ll have to put extra time and energy into making sure that your vacation spot is pet-friendly. If that sounds like a hassle to you, a staycation is an excellent alternative.

During your staycation at your home pool, your pets can be in on the fun. The whole family will be together – including the pets – for a tranquil break from routine.
