The Benefits of Staycationing At Your Home Pool

January 24, 2021by Content Team HPOOL AND SPA

Now more than ever, families are craving to head out on a vacation. We all need a break every once in a while to relax, recharge, and enjoy time with loved ones. However, planning a vacation can be overwhelming, especially with safety concerns regarding travel. Additionally, vacations are often expensive, and many people don’t have the extra room in their budgets to splurge on a trip. So, what can you do to reap all of the benefits of a vacation without the hassle and expense? Our suggestion is a staycation.

With a pool in your very own backyard, you can have a staycation whenever you please. No preparation is required – you can just head outside and enjoy an outdoor escape from the daily grind. Let’s learn more about Denver home pool staycationing and the perks of considering a custom pool for your abode.

Staycation: Vacation Without Leaving Home

What exactly is a staycation? It’s a holiday break that you take right from the comfort of your own home. By taking a staycation, you can enjoy the relaxation of a vacation without all of the complications that come along with a trip out of town. For a summer holiday, having a Denver home pool can upgrade your staycation. When you relax by the pool, you’ll automatically be transported to a calmer, more luxurious place. Clear blue water under the bright Colorado sunshine will offer you a break from day-to-day stressors and your regular routine without ever setting foot off of your property.

The Benefits of a Staycation at Your Home Pool

Save Money

One of the main perks of taking a staycation in lieu of an out-of-town trip is cost-effectiveness. Vacations are undeniably expensive. Between flights, rental cars, hotels, meals out, and activities, your vacation may cause more financial stress than it’s worth. When you opt for a staycation, you get to avoid extraneous expenses and focus on what’s important. After all, relaxation and the company of loved ones are priceless. With a staycation, you won’t have to worry about staying within budget – in the comfort of your home, you can relax without spending a dime.

Ditch The Dangers of Traveling

Currently, traveling is associated with health risks. If you don’t feel comfortable with these risks, or if you want to avoid the restrictions that currently come along with traveling to several locations, consider a staycation instead. With your loved ones and a pool in your backyard, you can simply enjoy the fresh air – no masks required.

Avoid Time Off Work

Unfortunately, many of us don’t have the flexibility to take extended periods off of work. But, if you’re planning a vacation, it may feel disappointing to put effort into the trip if you can only stay for a few days. A staycation will give you the complete flexibility to only vacation for as long as your work allows. Even if it only lasts for a weekend, a staycation can lower your stress levels and give you a chance to slow down amidst the daily chaos.

Skip The Pet Sitter

Many of us here in Denver and around the United States have one or more pets as members of the family. Especially if you have a pet that requires daily care, like a dog, heading out of town to go on vacation will require you to hire a pet sitter. If you choose to bring your pet along with you on vacation so that you don’t have to be apart from your furry friend, you’ll have to put extra time and energy into making sure that your vacation spot is pet-friendly. If that sounds like a hassle to you, a staycation is an excellent alternative.

During your staycation at your home pool, your pets can be in on the fun. The whole family will be together – including the pets – for a tranquil break from routine.

Top Pool Design Trends To Consider

December 27, 2020by Content Team HPOOL AND SPA

We’re about to embark on a new year, and it’s the perfect time to explore the pool design trends that are currently circulating among Denver home pool owners. Whether you’re planning on renovating the home pool that you own now, or looking to install a home pool for the very first time, we’re here to help you get the most out of your backyard oasis. There are many exciting trends in residential pool design that we’re excited to share with you.

LED Lighting

Pool lighting is a must for many homeowners. One of the main perks of owning your own pool is that you can head out for a private swim at any time, day or night. But, if you head out for a night swim, you’ll need lighting to stay safe and comfortable under the night sky. For the most effective and energy-efficient pool lighting, many homeowners are now opting for LED lights.

Energy-Efficiency

LED pool lights are preferable to traditional incandescent bulbs for several reasons. The main reason that comes to mind for most is energy-efficiency. LED lighting uses less energy to produce the same amount of light as an incandescent bulb. This is not only better for the environment, but also for your monthly utility bills. With LED pool lighting, you’ll pay less each month in energy expenses than you would with a traditional pool lighting system.

Longer Lifespan

As an added bonus, LED light bulbs last longer than incandescent bulbs. This is partly due to the fact that LED bulbs have included heat sinks that prevent them from overheating. So, with LED pool lighting, you won’t need to have the bulbs replaced as frequently. This will further save you money and make your pool maintenance to-do list a bit shorter.

Fire Elements

Fire and water create the ultimate juxtaposition. Combined as part of your home pool design, fire and water are simply spectacular. This is why fire elements are one of the hottest pool elements among homeowners today.

Fire bowls are popular for home pools. These bowls are striking and modern, providing a spectacular take on the tiki torch. Additionally, fire bowls come in all different shapes and materials. With a wide array of fire element designs available, you’ll easily be able to find an option that appeals to your Denver home pool vision.

Attached Bar

Entertaining is one of the key motivators for people to invest in a home pool. With a pool in your backyard, you’ll have a convenient venue for any get-together that you won’t have to worry about reserving. Cocktail parties at your home pool are sure to be the talk of the neighborhood!

To facilitate parties at your home pool, you can consider having an attached bar included in your pool design. Attached bars are becoming a popular add-on for home pool owners, and it’s not hard to see why. With an attached bar, it’s easier than ever to access drinks and bar snacks while you’re entertaining at the pool. Plus, this pool design element looks incredible. With an attached bar, you’ll have a mini-resort in your own backyard.

Natural Pools

In past eras, chlorine was the virtually universal option for home pools. When it came to sanitizing your pool, you’d need to have this chemical added for sanitation. Nowadays, homeowners are starting to opt for natural pool sanitation systems instead. There are many natural pool options available, allowing home pool owners in Denver and beyond to skip the chemicals without sacrificing a safe, clean pool.

Aquatic Vegetation

For a wholly natural pool option, many homeowners today are choosing aquatic vegetation to act as naturally-occurring water filters. Zero chemicals are required to keep this type of natural pool clean – all you’ll need is the aquatic vegetation.

Saltwater

Saltwater pools are also popular as chlorine pool alternatives. Saltwater pools have been around for a long time. But, they’re now becoming more widespread among home pool owners. Saltwater swimming water is much gentler and more pleasant than water with added chlorine. Plus, with a saltwater pool, less maintenance is required to keep the water clean, providing additional convenience for home pool owners.

Why Choose Professional Pool Maintenance?

November 25, 2020by Content Team HPOOL AND SPA

Being the pool owner is a big goal for homeowners. With your own pool, you’ll have a place for relaxation, exercise, and socializing right in your backyard. Rather than at public pools, you’ll have complete privacy with a home pool. But, before you become a private pool owner, know that it will require regular pool maintenance to remain in good condition.

You can, of course, complete pool maintenance on your own. But, especially during the summer months, you may find that it’s difficult to keep up with pool maintenance tasks. If you start falling behind in pool maintenance, the cleanliness and safety of your pool will suffer.

Professional pool maintenance is an option available to home pool owners with hectic schedules who can’t keep up with pool maintenance on their own. Even if you have some room in your schedule, Denver professional pool maintenance can provide several benefits to your personal pool throughout the year.

Here are the key benefits of entrusting your pool to pool maintenance experts:

Maintain a Consistent Schedule

When pool maintenance is performed on a consistent schedule, the pool will remain far cleaner and more beautiful. However, sticking to a diligent cleaning schedule on your own can be difficult. Professional pool maintenance is performed on a set schedule – here at Wetworks Pool and Spa, we offer weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly pool cleaning services. Like clockwork, our pool maintenance professionals will ensure that your pool is always in great condition.

During regular Denver pool cleanings, the professionals will address various maintenance tasks at the appropriate intervals. This may include:

  • Vacuuming the pool
  • Cleaning the pool cover
  • Cleaning the walls and tile line
  • Cleaning the pump and skimmer baskets
  • Skimming the surface of the pool
  • Chemically balancing the pool water
  • Maintaining the filter pressure

Save Yourself Time

Time: We all wish that we had more of it! By choosing professional pool maintenance services, you can put time back into your schedule every single week. Instead of spending hours maintaining your pool, you’ll have spare time to crack down on the other items on your to-do list.

Professionals can clean your pool faster than you would be able to yourself. This not only due to their expertise, but also their use of professional tools. Advanced pool maintenance tools largely cut down on the time required to clean a pool. This will translate to less time for maintenance and more time for swimming in a sparkling clean pool!

Reduce Repair Costs

You may assume that you’ll lose money by hiring pool maintenance professionals. But, this isn’t the case. By investing in professional pool maintenance services, you’ll save money in repair costs over time.

Pool maintenance protects your pool against damage. The consistency and quality of professional pool maintenance ensure that your pool is as well taken care of as possible. Plus, professionals will be able to identify any problems with your pool early on, before the problem becomes pervasive. This will spare you from the expense of serious pool repairs in the long run.

Ultimately, professional pool maintenance will prolong the lifespan of your pool. Given that a home pool is a major investment, we know that you’ll want it to last for as long as possible. Eventually, professional pool maintenance will pay for itself by keeping your Denver pool from wearing down over the years.

Maintain Chemical Balance

The cleanliness of your pool depends on a proper chemical balance. The chemicals in your pool need to be in balance for the water to remain clean. A chemical imbalance can quickly lead to the development of bacteria and algae, which will make your pool an unpleasant place to swim. Additionally, if the proportion of chemicals in your pool is too high, skin irritation among swimmers may result. So, don’t take any risks – leave the chemical balance of your pool to the professionals. In professional pool maintenance services, the experts will regularly check the chemical balance of your pool and make any adjustments as needed. Plus, the help of professionals will spare you from having to store the pool chemicals at your home, which can pose a safety risk if done improperly.

Wetworks Pool and Spa: How to Maintain a Pool During a Denver Winter

September 25, 2020by Content Team HPOOL AND SPA

Winter is one of the harshest Colorado seasons, and it’s crucial to prepare your pool or hot tub for the off-season. By taking extra precautions to maintain your Denver pool during the winter, you’ll be able to jump back into swimming season with ease.

Here, we’ll cover the main steps in winter pool maintenance for Denver pool owners.

Maintain Your Pool Heater.

Your pool heater is likely the priciest piece of pool equipment that you own. So, it’s important to protect it during the winter months to avoid the need for costly repairs or replacement.

If you keep your pool heater running during the winter, it’s likely to attract pests. The warmth that it produces is a major draw for small animals during the chilly Colorado winters. So, be sure to properly turn off your pool heater for the winter.

Pool heater models vary, so the process of turning them off for the winter can differ. But, you can follow these basic steps to switch most pool heaters off for the winter:

  • Close both of the gas valves. Typically, one gas valve is located inside of the heater with on/off labels and another valve is located at a point on the gas line running to the heater. It’s important to make sure that both gas valves are closed to avoid a gas leak, which would present a fire risk.
  • Shut off power to the heater at the electrical breaker.
  • Open up the pressure switch to avoid damage if trapped water freezes.
  • Open the drain cocks/winterization ports by removing all drain plugs.
  • Use a shop vac or a leaf blower to blow the remaining water out of the heater.

Balance Chemicals and Shock The Water.

Chemically balance your pool water before the start of the winter season to keep corrosion or scale from damaging your pool. You should test the pH level, chlorine, total alkalinity, and calcium hardness, then make adjustments as needed.

For chlorine pools, you should also shock the water. Be sure to add the correct amount of shock for the size of your pool.

Protect Pipes And Pool Components From Freezing.

Temperatures can drop well below freezing during winter in Colorado. So, it’s important to protect your pool’s pipes and other components from freezing. To do this, you’ll need to drain water from the pump, filter, and heater, as we discussed above. If excess water is left in any of these components over the winter months, it may freeze and cause damage. If water freezes inside of your pool pipes, the pipes may crack. Repairing a cracked pool pipe can be pricey, so it’s wise to take extra caution in ensuring that all of the water has drained from your pool system.

Colorado pool owners should also drain the water in their pools so that it sits a few inches underneath the skimmer. If you own an above-ground pool, drain the pool water to approximately one inch below the skimmer.

Check Your Pool Cover.

A cover is essential for winter pool maintenance in Denver. Before winter strikes, make sure that your pool cover is in good condition, with no tears or other signs of damage. Then make sure that your pool cover is secured to your pool as reliably as possible. If a storm strikes, you should be sure that your pool cover won’t blow over in the wind.

If excess water gathers on top of your pool cover, you should remove it ASAP so that it doesn’t freeze. To remove standing water, you can simply use a shop vac or a suction pump, if you own one.

Minimize Snow Accumulation.

Minimizing snow accumulation on the top of your pool cover is another important winter maintenance task. If snow and ice weigh down your cover, damage could occur. So, after any major snowstorm, use a shovel or leaf blower to remove snow from the cover.

If you use a mesh snow cover, the snow will drain into your pool once it has melted. In this case, keep an eye on the water level throughout the winter. For expert help with winter pool maintenance in Colorado, contact us today.

Wetworks Pool and Spa: 10 Pool Care Tips for Denver Colorado Pool Owners

September 18, 2020by Content Team HPOOL AND SPA

From staying mindful of the Colorado seasons to keeping your pool maintenance routine in check, Denver pool owners will benefit from these helpful tips.

Brush and Skim On The Daily.

Cleaning your pool with a brush and skimmer are essential daily tasks during the summer. Frequent cleaning will keep algae and debris from building up on your pool walls during the peak season, as well as make your pool a pleasant place to swim.

Run The Pool Pump Throughout The Summer.

In a perfect world, your pump would be running 24 hours per day in the summer, when your pool is in use the most. Running the pump all day, every day is the best option for optimal filtration. However, not all pool owners can afford the expense of running the pump constantly, and not all equipment is built to support non-stop use. So, try to run your pool pump for a minimum of eight hours per day during the summer. This will provide enough circulation to keep your pool clean and safe for swimmers.

Remember Winter Maintenance.

The winter season here in Denver, Colorado can bring on severe weather and freezing temperatures. Contrary to what some believe, your pool or hot tub can’t just stay out of sight, out of mind during the winter months. Winter maintenance is crucial to maintaining the condition of your pool for the sunny days to come. So, make sure that you have an excellent pool cover, keep your pool water balanced, and check your pool filter, pump, and heater for freezing throughout the winter.

Invest In a Good Pool Cover.

Speaking of pool covers, all Denver pool owners should invest in a durable, well-made cover. Pool covers keep debris like dirt, leaves, insects, twigs, and even small animals from getting into your pool. Since it often snows here in Colorado, you’ll want to find a cover that can withstand extreme weather. Then, make sure that the cover is reliably secured to your pool so that it will stay in place, no matter the weather.

Keep An Eye On The Water Level.

For the best possible results, your pool’s water level should line up with the center of your pool skimmer. If the water level is too high, your pool’s skimmer door won’t function well. If the water level is too low, the pump could get damaged.

Clean Skimmer Baskets.

During the swimming season, make sure to clean the skimmer baskets once per week. Your skimmer helps keep your pool clean by removing debris before it sinks. So, by keeping the basket clean, you can ensure that your skimmer operates properly. Clean skimmer baskets make for a clean pool.

Keep Pool Filters Clean.

Pool filters must be cleaned frequently for sparkling pool water. Additionally, clean pool filters place less strain on your pool equipment, ultimately keeping your entire pool system in good condition. Pool pumps and filters can be expensive, so proper maintenance is key to avoiding the need for replacements.

Check The pH Balance.

During the summer, it’s important to check the pH balance of your pool weekly at a minimum, if not twice per week. The pH of your pool water should be maintained at 7.2 to 7.8. If the pH of your pool water gets too high, the chlorine won’t be as effective. So, by keeping the pH in check, you can lower the amount of chlorine that you use.

Maintain The Pool Deck.

With your focus on keeping your pool water clean, it can be easy to forget about your pool deck. But, regularly cleaning your pool deck is essential. Bacteria, algae, spores, and dirt can be easily spread from your pool to your pool deck. Use a pool deck cleaner to give the area a thorough scrub monthly during the summer.

Enlist Professional Help.

If you’re struggling to keep up with pool maintenance tasks, enlisting professional help is your best option. Pool maintenance services are available and will help keep your pool in excellent condition. Expert pool maintenance can even extend the lifespan of your pool system while helping you avoid damage to pool equipment.

Benefits of Owning a Denver Home Pool

August 18, 2020by Content Team HPOOL AND SPA

As a homeowner in Denver, have you ever considered owning a pool? While a home pool is a major purchase, it will provide numerous long-term benefits for your entire family. You may be surprised at how a home pool can positively impact your lifestyle in several ways. Whether you’re exercising, entertaining, or just relaxing with your family, a home pool in Denver could be a fantastic investment for you.

Here, we’ll delve into the details of owning a Denver home pool. The benefits of having a pool in your own backyard may just surprise you.

Why Own a Home Pool in Denver?

A Private Escape From The Summer Heat

Here in Denver, the summer months can be remarkably hot and dry. With the sun beating down all day long, we often find ourselves longing for a refreshing dip in the pool. The water will cool down your body quickly while providing some much-needed relaxation.

Set Your Own Swimming Schedule

As a home pool owner, you’ll have the freedom to swim whenever you want. Unlike with community pools, you won’t have to abide by set pool hours and schedules. Your home pool is under your control, and you’ll be able to cool off whenever you need.

Plus, with a pool in your own backyard, you can skip the crowds to enjoy private swimming sessions. Just think: the next time you’re feeling overheated, you can just step outside and dive into a personal swimming oasis. With Colorado’s intense summer heat, it doesn’t get much better than that!

Impact-Free Exercise

Swimming is a wonderful mode of exercise for people of all ages. From young children to seniors, swimming trains both strength and stamina for improved overall wellness. With a Denver home pool, you can make it easier and more convenient for the entire family to take up swimming for exercise.

As a workout, swimming is fun and practical. When you swim, no impact is exerted on the body, making it safer than running or playing sports like football and basketball. Additionally, by choosing swimming over high-impact exercise, you’ll lower your risk of injury. This is an excellent benefit for seniors and even athletes seeking a safe cross-training activity.

Boost Your Family’s Fitness

Swimming allows you to gain improved physical fitness without causing wear-and-tear on the body. By choosing to own a Denver home pool, you’re making a long-term investment in your family’s long-term health.

Home Entertaining

A pool serves more than just a practical purpose. It’s also a talking point and a prime gathering place in your home. For hosting parties and casual get-togethers, a pool provides a fun activity and a relaxing atmosphere that your guests will love. Plus, given that it’s private, the pool parties at your home pool will be superior to those at a community pool.

A home pool provides limitless entertainment options. Whether you’re having a birthday party, a summer dinner party, or a family barbeque, get-togethers at your home will receive an upgrade when you install a home pool.

Tips For New Denver Pool Owners

With the benefits listed above, a home pool in Denver is a gift that keeps on giving. As you and your family enjoy swimming right in your backyard, keep the following tips in mind. These tips will ensure that you get the most out of your home pool for years to come.

  • Prep your pool for winter. Here in Denver, the winter season is usually harsh and snowy. Your pool will need to be covered and protected from the low temperatures.
  • Don’t let kids swim alone. Unlike at a community pool, your home pool doesn’t have lifeguards on duty. So, whenever the kids are out swimming, make sure that they’re supervised at all times.
  • Balance your chemicals at the start of summer. If you use chemicals to sanitize your pool water make sure to balance them properly before opening your pool for swimmers. This will ensure that your pool is clean and safe for everyone.
  • Don’t skimp on manual cleaning. Home pools require cleaning. Skimming, brushing, and vacuuming your pool are all necessary tasks to keep the water clean and sparkling.

When Is the Best Time of Year for Pool Installation?

August 19, 2019by Content Team HPOOL AND SPA

Did you know that swimming is the most popular among Americans? However, you don’t want to make your way to the public swimming pool every time you want a quick dip.

You don’t have to either. You could install a swimming pool in their back yard.

But, when’s the right time? Think carefully about the right season to start work on your pool installation.

There are countless things to consider before you give the go-ahead. Let’s discover the pros and cons of each season for building a swimming pool.

1. Spring Time

Springtime is very popular for swimming pools. If you install your pool during this season, you can have it ready for the summer. Spend the spring looking forward to cooling down in your own pool as summer gets closer.

However, it’s not without drawbacks. Spring can be an especially rainy season which could delay the installation. If you have a few days of rain, you may have a muddy mess in your back yard for a while.

Furthermore, springtime is a particularly popular time of year to install swimming pools. Therefore, you may struggle to hire a quality pool builder at this time of year. You’ll also be paying the top rate!

2. Summer Sun

Summer is also a good time to build your swimming pool. The weather conditions are normally dry and warm, which makes it perfect for building a pool outdoors.

The warm weather is also a popular time for pool installations. Again, you may also have to compete for the in-demand pool builders.

Don’t rush the pool installation to get it ready in time to enjoy in the warm weather. Instead, install your pool near the end of summer when builders won’t be as busy.

3. Fall Plans

If you want to design your swimming pool with flowers and trees around it, then fall is definitely the best time of the year. This is a great chance to benefit from our design ideas for more inspiration.

Additionally, the earth is normally quite dry after the summer. This makes installation easier.

Unfortunately, by the time your swimming pool is complete, the temperature will have dropped. You won’t be able to enjoy your pool until next year.

4. Winter Cold

Winter is not popular for pool installation for obvious reasons.

Many people don’t want to risk snowfall or thunderstorms during the installation process. If you’re unlucky with the weather conditions, you could have a construction site in your backyard for the whole winter.

Since not many people want to gamble with a winter pool installation, you may be able to take advantage of lower demand with discounts and a quicker process.

When Are You Planning Your Pool Installation?

Every season has pros and cons. You need to decide which is the best time of year for your pool installation.

Are you willing to risk a winter pool installation for the benefits of a cheaper rate? Or, do you want your swimming pool ready for the summer around the corner?

When you’re ready to get started on building your swimming pool, contact us here.

The Pool Excavation Process: How Much Dirt Is Actually Hauled Away?

August 16, 2019by Content Team HUncategorized

Digger and construction toys are some of the most popular items on any child’s gift list. They have been for more than 50 years. What happens when your yard is a real-life sandbox?

Pool excavation is an exciting (and messy!) process. There are several steps before a crew shows up with the heavy equipment. You probably have some questions.

  • What happens to my landscaping?
  • Can I save some money by digging myself?
  • What if you hit something when you dig?
  • How much dirt do you need to haul away?

Before the first shovel of dirt moves, let’s get some answers.

It All Starts With a Plan

In Denver, inground pool construction requires several permits. A pool contractor files plans to fulfill the permit requirements.

The plans indicate key elements like the pool location, pool access, safety fencing, plumbing, electrical, and other features.

Homeowners who wish to perform all or some of their own construction must pass a relevant test to perform the work. For most homeowners, digging their own hole is not an option.

Pre-excavation Work

Before your big dig, you need to remove your landscaping (or prepare to lose it.) Clear the area of your swimming pool, deck, and surrounding access. Heavy equipment must enter the area, so you may need easements from your neighbors or temporary fence removal.

Your contractor needs to bring in materials and remove excess dirt. Expect some storage of both dirt and construction supplies on site. Repeated traffic and compaction will destroy any existing landscaping, so prepare to replace it when finished.

Pool Excavation Day

Your pool contractor will visit your site and mark it with spray paint and a wooden frame. The pool excavation process is just one day with large equipment and no obstacles. Once the large dig is complete, a crew will finish the process by hand.

However, if the digger hits a rock, water or even a pocket of gas, all work stops. Your contractor must consult an engineer to correct the construction.

If your site uses smaller equipment, the dig may take several days. The dirt removal is approximately 2-3 times the volume of the hole. Once the dirt is removed it is no longer compacted and takes up more space.

Your contractor will keep a portion of the soil to compact for your pool surround. The rest of the dirt is hauled away from your site. Soil goes to a different site than waste, so it is an additional cost if waste is mixed in.

What Comes Next?

After your pool excavation, your contractor moves on to compacting the soil remaining. Then they place the steel reinforcements for your pool and prepare it for the concrete shell. In a short time, your pool will take shape!

A few more days for machinery hookup, inspections and then your deck. Follow that up with landscaping and clean-up. A brand new recreational feature for your home is ready!
