When Is the Best Time of Year for Pool Installation?

August 19, 2019by Content Team HPOOL AND SPA0

Did you know that swimming is the most popular among Americans? However, you don’t want to make your way to the public swimming pool every time you want a quick dip.

You don’t have to either. You could install a swimming pool in their back yard.

But, when’s the right time? Think carefully about the right season to start work on your pool installation.

There are countless things to consider before you give the go-ahead. Let’s discover the pros and cons of each season for building a swimming pool.

1. Spring Time

Springtime is very popular for swimming pools. If you install your pool during this season, you can have it ready for the summer. Spend the spring looking forward to cooling down in your own pool as summer gets closer.

However, it’s not without drawbacks. Spring can be an especially rainy season which could delay the installation. If you have a few days of rain, you may have a muddy mess in your back yard for a while.

Furthermore, springtime is a particularly popular time of year to install swimming pools. Therefore, you may struggle to hire a quality pool builder at this time of year. You’ll also be paying the top rate!

2. Summer Sun

Summer is also a good time to build your swimming pool. The weather conditions are normally dry and warm, which makes it perfect for building a pool outdoors.

The warm weather is also a popular time for pool installations. Again, you may also have to compete for the in-demand pool builders.

Don’t rush the pool installation to get it ready in time to enjoy in the warm weather. Instead, install your pool near the end of summer when builders won’t be as busy.

3. Fall Plans

If you want to design your swimming pool with flowers and trees around it, then fall is definitely the best time of the year. This is a great chance to benefit from our design ideas for more inspiration.

Additionally, the earth is normally quite dry after the summer. This makes installation easier.

Unfortunately, by the time your swimming pool is complete, the temperature will have dropped. You won’t be able to enjoy your pool until next year.

4. Winter Cold

Winter is not popular for pool installation for obvious reasons.

Many people don’t want to risk snowfall or thunderstorms during the installation process. If you’re unlucky with the weather conditions, you could have a construction site in your backyard for the whole winter.

Since not many people want to gamble with a winter pool installation, you may be able to take advantage of lower demand with discounts and a quicker process.

When Are You Planning Your Pool Installation?

Every season has pros and cons. You need to decide which is the best time of year for your pool installation.

Are you willing to risk a winter pool installation for the benefits of a cheaper rate? Or, do you want your swimming pool ready for the summer around the corner?

When you’re ready to get started on building your swimming pool, contact us here.

The Pool Excavation Process: How Much Dirt Is Actually Hauled Away?

August 5, 2019by Content Team HPOOL AND SPA0

Digger and construction toys are some of the most popular items on any child’s gift list. They have been for more than 50 years. What happens when your yard is a real-life sandbox?

Pool excavation is an exciting (and messy!) process. There are several steps before a crew shows up with the heavy equipment. You probably have some questions.

  • What happens to my landscaping?
  • Can I save some money by digging myself?
  • What if you hit something when you dig?
  • How much dirt do you need to haul away?

Before the first shovel of dirt moves, let’s get some answers.

It All Starts With a Plan

In Denver, inground pool construction requires several permits. A pool contractor files plans to fulfill the permit requirements.

The plans indicate key elements like the pool location, pool access, safety fencing, plumbing, electrical, and other features.

Homeowners who wish to perform all or some of their own construction must pass a relevant test to perform the work. For most homeowners, digging their own hole is not an option.

Pre-excavation Work

Before your big dig, you need to remove your landscaping (or prepare to lose it.) Clear the area of your swimming pool, deck, and surrounding access. Heavy equipment must enter the area, so you may need easements from your neighbors or temporary fence removal.

Your contractor needs to bring in materials and remove excess dirt. Expect some storage of both dirt and construction supplies on site. Repeated traffic and compaction will destroy any existing landscaping, so prepare to replace it when finished.

Pool Excavation Day

Your pool contractor will visit your site and mark it with spray paint and a wooden frame. The pool excavation process is just one day with large equipment and no obstacles. Once the large dig is complete, a crew will finish the process by hand.

However, if the digger hits a rock, water or even a pocket of gas, all work stops. Your contractor must consult an engineer to correct the construction.

If your site uses smaller equipment, the dig may take several days. The dirt removal is approximately 2-3 times the volume of the hole. Once the dirt is removed it is no longer compacted and takes up more space.

Your contractor will keep a portion of the soil to compact for your pool surround. The rest of the dirt is hauled away from your site. Soil goes to a different site than waste, so it is an additional cost if waste is mixed in.

What Comes Next?

After your pool excavation, your contractor moves on to compacting the soil remaining. Then they place the steel reinforcements for your pool and prepare it for the concrete shell. In a short time, your pool will take shape!

A few more days for machinery hookup, inspections and then your deck. Follow that up with landscaping and clean-up. A brand new recreational feature for your home is ready!

A Great Exercise: Is Swimming Good For Weight Loss?

June 19, 2019by Content Team HPOOL AND SPA0

When thinking about working out to lose weight, most of us picture lacing up our running shoes or heading to the gym. But those activities get boring after a while, and they can also be hard on people with bad joints or a lot of weight to lose.

So how can you exercise while protecting your joints, having fun, and losing weight? Some would say that swimming is the answer.

But is swimming for weight loss really an effective strategy? Keep reading to find out.

Benefits of Swimming

Swimming has three main benefits over other types of exercises. First, it combines cardiovascular and strength training into one motion. Swimming through water creates resistance (known as drag), meaning your heart, lungs, and muscles have to work harder than they would on land.

Second, it’s essentially zero-impact. This makes it an ideal exercise for people recovering from an injury, with arthritis or chronic pain, or with a low level of fitness. The buoyancy of the water means you can walk, run, and jump without putting undue strain on your joints.

Third, swimming can be modified to suit anyone’s fitness level. You don’t need to swim laps for an hour straight to reap benefits—even walking through the water and doing light plyometric exercises can help.

Making a Splash in Your Water Workout

But is swimming a good way to lose weight? Yes, if you’re consistent. One study found that, among a group of older women, swimming 3x a week was more effective at improving both body weight and body fat distribution as compared to a similar walking program.

The CDC recommends swimming as part of a healthy lifestyle. By their calculations, a 154lb person can burn over 500 calories per hour doing slow freestyle laps! That’s nearly as many as you would burn an hour of running, and you’re also getting a true full-body workout.

If you’re just starting out, consider using a kickboard to help you float until you’re more comfortable in the water. Then, move on to easier strokes like freestyle and breaststroke, increasing the duration and intensity of your workouts over time.

How to Dive In

Want to give swimming a try, but you don’t live by a body of water? No problem!

First, check your local high school or college—they often have pool hours open to the public for lap swimming, either free or for a low cost. The next place to look is a YMCA, gym, or rec center. There, you might find a water aerobics class that can help you boost your weight loss even more!

If swimming in public isn’t for you, it might be time to consider installing a backyard pool. You can even get a pool custom designed for your exercise needs—long and narrow for lap swimming, or a bigger shallow end for water aerobics.

Swimming for Weight Loss: Will You Take the Plunge?

All in all, swimming for weight loss can be an effective part of your exercise strategy. If you maintain a healthy, balanced diet and head to the pool regularly, you could see yourself heading toward a trimmer waistline in the future.

If you’re ready to think about getting a pool of your own, contact Wetworks Pool and Spa. Our experienced team will work with you one on one to design the dream pool that can help you meet your fitness goals. Give us a call today—we’d be happy to answer any questions you have!

7 Essential Items for Swimming Pool Maintenance

June 5, 2019by Content Team HPOOL AND SPA0

In the United States, there are 10.4 million residential pools.

Owning a pool is a ton of fun – but also requires continuous maintenance!

Here are some essential tools for swimming pool maintenance.

1. Vacuum Hose

To be able to vacuum dirt and other debris from the bottom of the pool, this is an important piece of equipment in your pool maintenance kit.

The vacuum hose connects with the vacuum head and a telescoping pole. You can lower this into the pool, fill the hose with water, and then have it suction up all the dirt at the bottom of the floor.

2. Vacuum Heads

The vacuum head is also important. You should vacuum your pool on a regular basis. The vacuum hose attaches to the vacuum head which is the part that actually cleans the bottom of the pool.

There are two different types of vacuum heads that you can get. You can either get one that is weighted and has wheels, or you can get one that has brushes. The latter is used for vinyl pools.

3. Telescoping Pole

A telescoping pole is also important for the last two pieces of equipment.

The telescoping poles come in all kinds of sizes and different materials. The best ones are ones made of fiberglass because they are more durable.

There are normally two holes in the bottom of the pole so that you can attach different things to it to have a better reach in your pool cleaning.

4. Pool Shock

Your pool can have all kinds of gross chemicals, oils, and other things living in it. Thankfully, there are chemicals that can kill the bad stuff.

This is why you should have a pool shock. When you add pool shock into your water, it will bring the sanitizer levels in the water back up so that it can effectively kill whatever is living in the water.

To make sure that you buy an effective shock, choose one that has calcium hypochlorite in it. You should add the pool shock about once a week.

5. Pool Brushes

Pool brushes are also important to keep your pool clean.

You can buy all kinds of different pool brushes. If you have a concrete pool, then you may want to consider buying a stainless steel brush. However, if you have a vinyl pool, you should get a plastic bristle brush.

6. Skimmer Nets

One of the most popular pieces of pool equipment is a skimmer net.

This is a net made of mesh that can attach to your telescoping pole. If something is floating in your water, you can easily stick the net in and scoop it out.

This is easy and convenient so that you don’t have to get in the water and dig something out.

7. Algae Brush

An algae brush is useful if algae have started to grow in your pool.

Algae can be difficult to clean out of your pool, but the first step is by brushing it off with one of these brushes. If you have a brush that has stainless steel bristles, this can work to break up the algae.

If you have a vinyl pool, use a nylon bristle brush.

Using this kind of brush will save you a lot of time and money.

Use These Supplies for Your Pool Maintenance Today

Start with these pool maintenance tools to keep your pool looking new as long as possible.

Sometimes it can be too much of a chore to clean your pool, but you can find someone else to help you out.

In this post, we cover 5 stunning pool renovations ideas you’ll want this summer.

Add New Water Features

What have you ever desired to have in or around your dream pool? A Baja step that allows pool users to enjoy the sound of the pool spa natural waterfall. Or maybe you desired soothing spillways built into slate columns with copper agaves.

Whether you want to transform your backyard into a tropical beach or have a swim up bar, these pool renovation ideas are easy to add. Just keep in mind that new water features increase the cost of maintaining your pool.

Invest in Pool Automation Systems

Want to take out the hard work of pool ownership? You can do so by investing in pool automation systems. For instance, you can install easy touch control centers.

This allows you to control your heater, pump, and smart relays. It can also control extra devices like booster pumps and lights.

You also have the choice of automatic pool covers and robotic cleaners. Improved technology allows you to control the automation systems with your smartphone.

Make Your Pool Inexpensive with Energy Efficient Equipment

Is your pool pump consuming a lot of power? Are you about to connect your pool pump to a generator and bike? Well, forget about pedaling to generate electricity.

Thanks to improved technology, you can invest in energy efficient equipment. For starters, you have a variable speed pool pump. Unlike the traditional pool pump, this model varies the speed using less electricity.

You can also invest in solar powered heaters and energy efficient filters.

Glam Your Pool with Led Lighting

Want to transform your outdoor environment with swimming pool remodeling ideas? Looking for features that will enhance your pool experience?  You can do so with LED lighting for pools.

As energy efficient lights, they use less electricity saving you on energy costs.  They are available in different colors making pool parties a memorable event. Today, you can find remote controlled waterproof accent lights.

Using the RC, you can tantalize your sight, touch, senses, and sound.

Enhance Your Pool Experience with Pool Accessories

5 Essential Pool Maintenance Tips

April 23, 2019by Content Team HPOOL AND SPA0

One of the biggest reasons people avoid installing a pool is the maintenance involved with keeping a pool clean and operational.

Anyone who has ever owned a pool knows that yes, there is a certain amount of maintenance involved with keeping a swimming pool clean. That said, it’s not nearly as costly or time-consuming as people think.

By keeping up with a little routine maintenance, you can keep your pool party-ready all season long without having to think about it.

Not sure how to properly care for your backyard swimming pool? Don’t panic!

Here are five must-have pool maintenance tips to help you keep your pool clean and healthy.

1. Skim Your Pool Often

The primary enemy in maintaining your pool is random debris — which is an inevitable problem.

Leaves, dirt, hair, dead bugs, and anything that else that winds up floating on the surface of your pool can spell big trouble in the long run if you let it build up.

The solution? Don’t let it build up!

While there are ways to block debris from falling into your pool, you can save a lot of time and money by skimming your pool yourself.

By skimming the surface of your pool once every week or every other week, you can prevent build-up and clogs and keep your water looking pristine.

2. Check Your Chemical Levels

The key to keeping your pool looking its best is maintaining its chemical levels.

That said, those levels depend entirely on your filtration system and the type of pool you have. So, there is no master guide to maintaining pool chemical levels.

While you can find special kits to help you monitor and treat your pool’s chemical levels, you may want to consider bringing in a professional.

By hiring someone to maintain your pool’s chemical levels, you won’t have to worry about potentially damaging your pool.

Some services will also take care of cleaning and routine maintenance so you can spend more time enjoying your pool.

3. Shock Your Pool Weekly

An easy way to maintain your pool’s chemical levels and keep the water crystal clear is by making sure to shock the water once a week.

Shocking your pool kills off any bacteria that might be building up and is essential to keeping everything clean and functioning.

You don’t have to be an expert chemist to shock your pool, either. You can find pool shock systems at any hardware store and even some grocery stores.

Most pool shock systems come pre-mixed and measured, so you need to do it dump it in and let it work its magic.

4. Clean Out Your Filter

Any gunk or debris that makes it past your routine cleaning will eventually wind up in the filter. Which, is why you need to make sure you take the time to keep it clean.

Fortunately, cleaning out your filter can be pretty easy depending on the system you have.

While it may seem like a nuisance, neglecting to clean out your filter can lead to costly repairs down the line.

5. Maintain Your Water Level

Your pool’s water level is more important than it may seem. Over or underfilling your pool could damage the filter or lead to several expensive or time-consuming repairs.

So, make sure you know how full your pool needs to be and take the time to check your water levels every other week. During unusually hot weather you should take to checking your water level every week or even twice a week to be on the safe side.

Must-Know Pool Maintenance Tips

Keeping your swimming pool looking and feeling its best doesn’t have to be a full-time job.

By following these simple pool maintenance tips, you’ll be able to cut down on cleaning and spend more time enjoying the water.

Are you interested in adding a pool to your backyard, or looking for someone to help you maintain the one you already have? We can help.

If You Build It, They Will Swim: 9 Reasons It’s Worth It to Build a Swimming Pool

April 9, 2019by Content Team HPOOL AND SPA0

When it’s summer, it’s too hot and sticky to pack everything up and waste gas driving to the crowded community pool everytime you want a refreshing swim. That’s why you’re considering building your own in your private backyard.

Of course, the main obstacle to building your own pool is money. The second issue is the time and energy it takes.

When you build a swimming pool, it’s an investment, but it’s an investment you won’t regret. In fact, that pool could raise the value of your home by up to 7%.

If you need more convincing, check out these 9 reasons why it’s worth it to build a swimming pool.

1. Regulate Your Temperature

When the temperature rises, so does your electric bill. It’s not cheap to run the air conditioning all day and night just to stay cool.

With a swimming pool, however, you can leave the A/C off. Instead of cranking down the thermostat, you can just take a dip to cool off.

2. Spend Time with Family

Most people buy homes to provide shelter for their family, but keeping the family happy inside that home can be more difficult. With a pool, happiness is almost guaranteed.

Having a pool gives you a reason to host family barbecues or just general hangouts. Family members without a pool of their own will be grateful for your hospitality.

3. Increase Your Home Value

Although a pool can cost about $1,000 a year in maintenance, it’s a cost worth paying. It not only improves the functionality of your home, but the aesthetics as well.

If you ever put your home on the market, you can bet you’ll have a lot more interest with a backyard pool than without one.

4. Relaxation and Exercise

Life can get busy and stressful – use your pool as an excuse to take it slow when you get home.

Exercise is a great way to relax, reduce stress, and stay healthy. It’s much easier to do some laps in your pool than drive all the way to the gym after a long day at work.

5. Save Some Money

It’s not cheap to build a pool, but it can actually save you money in the long run. You can save money on your electric bill in summer, cancel your gym membership, and reduce the amount of expensive vacations you take.

6. Keep the Kids Happy

It’s not easy to keep kids entertained after a stressful work week. Thankfully, a pool with some good toys can keep kids happy for hours with little effort done by you.

7. Make an Oasis

When you build a pool to improve your home aesthetics, consider what layout you want. Do you want a waterfall? Some plants nearby? Your pool can become a special place that you enjoy having.

8. You Can Finance

The cost of building a pool can be daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. Many companies provide financing, so you don’t need to pay everything up front. Just contact a business for advice.

9. Improve Your Backyard

With a beautiful backyard, you’ll be more encouraged to host events. You can have coworkers or neighbors over and improve your relationships while you improve your home.

Ready to Build a Swimming Pool?

When you build a swimming pool, it improves the value of your home. This improvement is enough to offset the time, money, and labor that goes into it. Not to mention the enjoyment you’ll experience with your own pool available to you.

If you’re ready to commit, check out the services available at Wetworks Pool and Spa.
