How to Keep Unwanted Guests Out of Your Pool

Ok. So the pool has been installed at your Denver, Colorado home, you’ve purchased an automatic cleaner and you’ve determined the best ways to keep chlorine levels stable and the pH level balanced.

You should be good, right?

Maybe.

As you’re aware, Denver is home to a wide range of wildlife, and a lot of that wildlife likes water. No one wants to walk into the back yard to find birds swimming in the pool and no one wants to go outside to find that one or more critters have expired in your pool.

The good news is that there are steps you can take that can help prevent this from happening.

Fencing is your friend

One of the easiest things you can do to keep wildlife out of your Denver, Colorado pool involves putting up a fence. In addition to providing an additional layer of safety for you and your family, fencing can help prevent unwanted animals from wandering into your pool.

Consider automatic sprinklers

This is also a great way to keep animals out of your pool, especially since there are sprinkler systems that come equipped with infrared beams, which can detect the movement of animals! If the beams detect animal activity, the sprinklers will begin to spray. The spray of water is a great way to scare animals off without causing them any harm.

Invest in a natural repellant

There are chemicals you can spray on the areas surrounding your pool that will deter animals from coming any closer. You can even create your own mixture by combining water and Cayenne pepper in a spray bottle.  Another combination, which consists of onion, water and jalapeno pepper may also help keep critters at bay.

Invest in a pool cover

Some people choose to purchase pool covers as a way to keep animals from diving in for a dip. If you’re looking for something that has additional functionality, there are pool covers you can purchase that have a solar component, which will help warm the water.

Consider using a decoy

Although some people have had great levels of success when it comes to using decoys as a means of scaring birds away, others feel they’re not effective. If you’re on the curious side, do an Internet search for Bird-X Gator Guard Floating Alligator Head to learn more.

Pay attention to the obvious

Make sure your guests and your children pick up food that may have fallen on the ground.  If you have bird feeders in your back yard, position them far away from the pool.
